Summer 2025: Crias, Chaos, and (hopefully) a Whole Lot of Sunflowers

ree

If you've ever wondered what it's like to juggle baby alpacas, ambitious renovations, unpredictable weather, and a few goats, and guardian dogs with a flair for mischief all while balancing other full-time jobs- well, welcome to summer at the farm.

Let’s start with the big news: we’ve added not one, but two brand-new crias to the family! Meet Alfalfa (Alfie) and Arlo. Fluffy bundles of joy who are already stealing hearts and breaking land-speed records (come for the sunflowers, stay for the baby alpaca zoomies).

And speaking of fluff, it’s almost time for everyone to get naked. Yes, shearing season is right around the corner. The alpacas (and some of their goat sidekicks) will be trading their winter coats for breezier summer looks. It’s one of the most satisfying transformations on the farm… and arguably the most glamorous.

Our sunflowers are going in with hopeful hearts and muddy boots. Last year’s growing conditions were… character-building (read: wildly uncooperative). This year, we're crossing all fingers and toes for sunshine, just the right amount of rain, and a bloom-worthy August. No pressure, Mother Nature.

Now, about those goats. We brought them home last fall, and let’s just say they’ve made themselves very comfortable. Equal parts adorable and chaotic, they’ll be on full display during our Sunflower Days in August.

Behind the scenes, big things are happening. Our farm shop and art studio are currently getting a glow-up. We're working hard to create a space that's as inspiring and welcoming as the work we do here. If all goes to plan (and we keep the barn cats out of the paint), we’ll reopen in August with a cozy, creative shopping experience worth the wait.

Also under renovation: our glamping site, Heron’s Nest. Think upgraded comforts, dreamy views, and maybe even a few surprises. We're not spilling all the details just yet, but trust us, it’ll be worth staying tuned.

And finally, we’re over-the-moon excited to announce the launch of our Heron’s Nest Artist Residency. It’s a place where artists can come breathe, create, and be inspired by the landscape, the animals, and the gentle rhythm of farm life. Applications open in June.

Private farm tours are available from July through October, but they must be booked in advance, particularly to ensure safety as we make changes on the farm. Plus, our goats insist on a proper guest list.

Here’s to a season of growth, gratitude, and maybe just a little bit of mayhem.
